The Queen Mary Tour - Overview of Ship/Hotel in Long Beach, California

Queen Mary a retired British ocean liner hotel and tours

The RMS Queen Mary is a retired British ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard-White Star Line and was built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland. Queen Mary, along with RMS Queen Elizabeth, was built as part of Cunard’s planned two-ship weekly express service between Southampton, Cherbourg and New York. The two ships were a British response to the express superliners built by German, Italian and French companies in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Once a world-class ocean liner, the Queen Mary Hotel offers guests unique accommodations and a wide array of attractions that simply cannot be found anywhere else. Whether it’s the authentic polished wood panelling, the original 1930’s artwork, the Art Deco style or the operable porthole(s), there’s no question that the Queen Mary Hotel is unlike any other Southern California hotel. Each stateroom is unique with its own personality and offers a real glimps into what transatlantic travel was like during the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. With an impressive history and tradition of excellence, the Queen Mary Hotel is more than a place to rest one’s head – it’s an entire experience. Trip Advisor  SCHEDULED TOURS ARE NOW FULL The City of Long Beach is proud to welcome visitors back onboard the RMS Queen Mary, beginning Dec. 15, 2022, for the first time since March 2020. To celebrate the reopening of select elements of the ship, and to thank the community for their patience and support during the ship’s closure, the City will offer free guided tours to the public for a limited time. During the one-hour tour, visitors will be guided by a historical docent where they will experience select areas of the Queen Mary’s Promenade Deck and scenic views of the Downtown shoreline, including a walk through the Promenade Shops, Observation Bar, Queen Salon and Royal Salon, among other areas. Tour participants will learn about the ship’s history – including its haunted history – and will also watch a short video inside Heritage Hall featuring the critical repair work conducted to the ship throughout 2022. TOURS Thank you for your interest in the free guided tours of the Queen Mary, available for the public for a limited time. Due to popular demand, all scheduled tours are now full. We appreciate the community interest and excitement in this opportunity and we look forward to welcoming more visitors back on board when additional elements of the ship reopen in 2023. If you or anyone in your party are feeling sick, it is important to stay home until you feel better and avoid close contact with others. With respiratory viruses such as the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) currently circulating at higher rates than usual for this time of year, and with COVID-19 cases steadily increasing, the City strongly recommends that people who are scheduled for a tour not attend if feeling ill. The Health Department strongly recommends that people wear a mask when indoors, especially those who are at high risk for severe disease and after close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 or is known to be sick. TOUR REGISTRATION Tours will begin promptly at their listed times. Registrants should arrive for their tour 15 minutes prior to the start time. Late arrivals will not be allowed to join the tour. Tours are ADA accessible. Luxury homes in PALM DESERT Palm Desert offers homes in various architectural styles, custom builds, and even raw land to build your one-of-a-kind dream home. Top Tips on Hosting during Coachella Festival

I’m an Airbnb Superhost and Host Advisory Board member. I’m also the Host Club Leader for the Lake Arrowhead area, and I love working alongside my fellow Hosts to make us all better community members. Right now, I’m super excited to be coming up on my 10-year anniversary hosting on Airbnb. And like a lot of you, I’ve got festival season on my mind, and I wanted to share some of my experiences with you. Tips for the high season There’s a risk-reward calculation we all do when hosting during festival season. My husband and I actually bought our home in Palm Springs because of the fun we had at Coachella! I have some amazing stories from those wild years of my life, but I also want people having those moments at the festival, and not in my house. These are my top tips for encouraging guests to follow local laws and regulations while still having the trip of a lifetime: Being cognizant of local laws. Different municipalities have different noise and parking restrictions. If you don’t follow protocol, the repercussions can be major. Setting expectations for high enforcement. If your guests know what they can and can’t do on your property, they’re more likely to be good stewards of your spot. Communicating clearly that you’re available. I prefer in-person check-ins. It’s a gentle reminder that someone is close by! And even if you can’t be there in person, you can still message them the next morning to let them know they can reach you anytime. Infusing personal touches. These are big reservations, so make your guests feel appreciated. I’m doing poolside-themed gift baskets—tame, but still festive and fun. A reality check on guest cancellations I’m just going to say it like it is: Canceling on your guests if you don’t absolutely have to can be downright devastating. Put yourself in their shoes. Coachella is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a lot of people. They spend a lot of money and plan this for a year in advance, and their housing is a huge part of this experience. Not canceling is the bare minimum we can do as Hosts. This is especially true during major events like Coachella. These festivals bring a lot of opportunities. You can tick a lot of boxes for your guests, and your own rep as a Host, by focusing on all aspects of the guest experience. Going the distance shows your guests you care. I make sure the house is cleaner than ever and add personal touches like a handwritten welcome note. https://palmdesert.com/vacation-rentals-2/le. We’d love to hear any stories, good or bad, about how it all goes! Visit for vacation rental jomes in the Coachella Valley.. WILDLIGHTS - The Living Desert

Town Tradition: Local Plan For Living Desert Zoo’s

‘Glow In The Park’ Palm Desert’s tradition offers a way for zoo-member families to view the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens after the sun has set. Ashley Ludwig,Patch Staff Posted Mon, Jan 30, 2023 at 8:44 am PT Reply (PHOTO: Courtesy Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc. ) PALM DESERT, CA — It’s not the glowing forests of Pandora on Avatar, but it may be the next best thing for Palm Desert residents. For the second year in a row, the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens’ ‘Glow in the Park’ wildlife sanctuary installation brings the nighttime desert to life in a feast for the eyes. Presented by Arcisure Arena, Glow in the Park is reserved for zoo members. It is a ticketed, after-hours event scheduled from 6:30 to 10 p.m. from March 17 to April 30. Tickets go on sale in late January, according to the zoo website. Town Tradition: Local Plan For Living Desert Zoo’s ‘Glow In The Park’; PHOTO: Courtesy Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc. For starters, take everything you know about lanterns and throw it away. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens partnered with an installation expert who created larger-than-life light sculptures lit from within by colorful LED lights. The springtime display returns to feature themed paths that pay homage to pollinators and plants, showcase traditional Chinese lanterns and culture in unique ways, and tell visual stories of the desert in all of its extreme resilience. At night, the park appears to come alive with glowing displays of rams, flamingos, crocodiles, towering lions, butterfly trees and a Chinese dragon whose brightly-colored tail coils into a tunnel big enough to walk through. Some installations are interactive and others are merely breathtaking, according to a Discover Palm Desert spokesperson. PHOTO: Courtesy Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc. “The event is a truly awe-inspiring animal and nature-scape lantern creations are sure to delight your sight and senses,” according to the publication. There are interactive features, such as the glowing moon swing, unicorn carriage, and glowing photo frame to mug for photos next to a glowing gorilla. The darkness of the desert sky makes the light-up features even more spectacular. Living Desert Zoo and Gardens CEO and President Allen Monroe discussed the added bonus of a nighttime African Safari. To see the animals of the zoo at night, is unlike any other experience The Living Desert Zoo has hosted in previous years, according to Monroe. Expect new and exciting glowing creatures in 2023. PHOTO: Courtesy Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc. “It’s been really exciting to see it come to life right before our eyes,” Monroe said in 2022. “Each section has its own unique theme and design and is a work of art in itself.” This year, the magic returns, according to Monroe. “This year’s event is sure to delight as an entirely new line up of lanterns will light up the night including lanterns of desert wildlife, animals of the sea, and even mythical creatures!” Guests can watch the desert come alive with lanterns, engaging art installations, interactive stations, and plenty of memorable photo opportunities at Glow in the Park. Glow in the Park will be held nightly, March 17 through April 30 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at LivingDesert.org. Advanced reservations are required as space is limited. Tickets are purchased for a select date and time. New this year, a combo ticket is available – guests can purchase any day general admission zoo ticket and a Glow in the Park ticket for a discounted rate. Glow in the Park is presented by Acrisure Arena home of the Coachella Valley Firebirds and sponsored by the City of Palm Desert. Produced in partnership with Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc., Glow in the Park is an extraordinary night-time event featuring intricate, immersive, and truly amazing animal and nature-scape lantern creations. Photo: Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc., Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc. designed each lantern installation in partnership with the zoo to reflect the unique location of the Coachella Valley as well as the zoo itself. The Glow in the Park is immersive, with larger-than-life lanterns and glowing landscapes that create both the engaging art installations the area is famous for as well as a backdrop for photo opportunities, according to Glow In the Park fans. The much anticipated family-friendly event is ticketed, so zoo members can be prepared to spend a little extra if they go. Advanced reservations are required. Planning for the North Palm Desert Park

The new North Palm Desert regional park is taking shape and we want your feedback on this exceptional development. The City is committed to making this park a dynamic, safe, and enjoyable location for residents and visitors alike. The City of Palm Desert encourages all community stakeholders to use the QR code on the right to take our survey, which will provide input for this new regional park. You’re also welcome to use the tools on this website to share your ideas, ask questions, and easily connect with City Hall employees. For information on regional developments in North Palm Desert, please review our Let’s Discuss: North Palm Desert page. Project Overview The City of Palm Desert has envisioned the creation of a new regional sports park in North Palm Desert and University District areas. The regional sports park has been preliminarily identified to include new recreational opportunities and activities, for the residents of Palm Desert. The future North Palm Desert Regional Park will serve to extend the continued investment that the City of Palm Desert is making in the community, through opportunities to facilitate access to parks and open space, satisfying the recreational, active, and passive uses of the residents, and creating spaces that will celebrate the values of our community. Upcoming Community Open House: Saturday, January 14, 2023 Please join us for the City’s second public engagement on this project. It will be held on Saturday, January 14th at the Palm Desert iHub facility (37023 Cook St Suite 102). Stop by anytime between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. The Design Team’s representatives will be there to introduce themselves and to listen and document any feedback or input that you may wish to contribute. Some of the specific feedback components that they will be seeking to hear from residents include: On Saturday, December 3, the City invited the north Palm Desert community to the iHUB for an Open House to help plan new parks in the area. The City’s consultant, Interwest, led the event to listen to community input and answer questions. Technical experts were ready, including a traffic planner, landscape architects, and designers. Over 50 residents attended the event and provided feedback on the project. A second Open House will be held at the iHUB on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Invitation mailers will be sent to all residents north of Frank Sinatra Drive.
