Great drone video over the Palms to Pines Scenic Byway

This video flyover starts at the Coachella Valley Vista Point and then follows the videographer as they drive down the mountain into Palm Desert. State Route 74 (SR 74), part of which forms the Palms to Pines Scenic Byway or Pines to Palms Highway, and the Ortega Highway, is a state highway in the U.S. state of California. It runs from Interstate 5 in San Juan Capistrano in Orange County to the city limits of Palm Desert in Riverside County. Stretching about 111 miles (179 km), it passes through several parks and National Forests between the Pacific coast and the Coachella Valley. This scenic driving tour climbs from the desert through the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains, before descending again to the desert. The route passes through a series of areas preserved for animal habitat, ranging from desert oasis to snow-capped mountains, and parts of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument and San Bernardino National Forest. Drivers can pull off the winding and often steep road at a number of pulloffs or lookout points, each with habitat ranging from forested mountainsides with pine, oak and fir, to a reservoir, to arid brush- and cactus-covered stretches — not to mention sweeping views of mountains and valleys. The Palms to Pines Highway parallels San Jacinto Creek as it winds through the mountains before intersecting SR 243 in Mountain Center and providing access to the Hemet Reservoir. SR 74 follows the Garner Valley Wash through Garner Valley before meeting the eastern terminus of SR 371. The road crosses the Santa Rosa Indian Reservation before going through the communities of Gardenland and Pinyon Pines and turning north along Deep Canyon and becoming the western boundary of the University of California Desert Research Area. As the highway descends to the Coachella Valley area, it parallels Carrizo Creek before entering the city limits of Palm Desert, where SR 74 meets its current legal eastern terminus. The SR 74 designation continued into Palm Desert as a city arterial to its eastern terminus at SR 111, which has also had its state highway designation removed through Palm Desert. McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert with an all-star tribute to Bob Hope

The McCallum Theatre

The McCallum Theatre’s mission is to entertain and educate the public by offering a variety of performing arts experiences that reflect the diversity of people, interests, and tastes of the Palm Desert/Palm Springs communities and constituents served by the Theatre. In May 1973, a group of Coachella Valley business, education and cultural leaders organized as Friends of the Cultural Center, Inc. and committed themselves to the creation of a state-of-the-art performing arts center.  Their vision was to enhance and enrich the lives of Palm Springs & Palm Desert residents by making the performing arts available to as many people as possible.  Fundraising began in earnest with thirteen sold-out performances by Fred Waring. By 1984, local developer Terry Hahn contributed $1 million to the project and Gerald Ford became part of the board of directors. Ford, in turn, convinced Bob Hope to contribute to the project. Vision became reality in January 1988, with the opening of McCallum Theatre.  Opening night was an all-star tribute to Hope. According to Palm Springs Life, Van Cliburn inaugurated the Steinway piano. Lucille Ball had guests teary-eyed from laughing. Alvin Ailey dancers put their best feet forward and Sarah Brightman sang a tune from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera a month before it opened on Broadway.  In the audience that night were Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Gerald and Betty Ford, Walter and Leonore Annenberg, and many other notable VIPs. Named for a pioneering desert family, the McCallum has gained acclaim as one of the country’s finest presenting theaters by audiences, entertainers and peers alike.  Ticket sales consistently place the McCallum in the top 50 theaters in the world.  Education programs have served more than one million local schoolchildren, educators and community members, while top entertainers praise the venue and its audiences More Information Here Luxury homes in PALM DESERT Palm Desert offers homes in various architectural styles, custom builds, and even raw land to build your one-of-a-kind dream home. Instead, Cotino Disney is a housing community set in the heart of Coachella Valley in Southern California, offering abundant attractive opportunities for its residents. Moreover, the 600 acres of land have been transformed into a luxurious residential complex on the same land that once was a retreat for the creative mastermind himself, Walt Disney, and his wife, Lillian. Because of this, this place’s romantic and historical allure is still very much intact. Apart from its modern establishments, Cotino Disney offers plenty of activities to be done in nature, especially for families. This area in Palm Desert, California, doesn’t experience a lot of extreme temperatures or rain, so residents can spend their time hiking or interacting with animals. The Desert Housing Report

All The Coachella Valley Bermuda Dunes Cathedral City Coachella Desert Hot Springs Indian Wells Indio La Quinta Palm Desert Palm Springs Rancho Mirage Thousand Palms The Desert Housing Report April 2023 Summary PRICES: The median price of a detached home in the Coachella Valley ended the month at $685,000, which is up 1.5% year over year. The median attached price surged $20,000 in April to end at $480,000. This is the second month of strong price growth with the current price only 2% below last May’s record price of $491,000. Every city but Desert Hot Springs has a year over year price decline in its average size detached home. Price setbacks in the cities of La Quinta, Indio and Palm Desert range from minus 2.2% to minus 5%. The largest declines are in the high-end cities of Indian Wells and Palm Springs. Prices in the attached market remain relatively stable. SALES: The three-month average of sales rose 120 units to 665 units a month from 545 last month. Most of this is seasonal and we expect the average to continue to increase for another month. The 12-month average of sales, which takes out seasonality, shows total sales averaged 601 units a month. This is the 21st consecutive monthly decline. The largest percentage declines in sales were in Cathedral City, down 50%, followed by Desert Hot Springs, down 47%, and Indio, down 36%. The cities of Coachella and Palm Desert continue to have the smallest percentage decline of 18% and 22% respectively. INVENTORY & “MONTHS OF SALES” RATIOS: On May 1 st , Valley inventory was 1,876 units, which is 100 units less than last month but 1,017 units greater than last year. The primary reason inventory isn’t growing in this low sales environment is that monthly new listings continue to remain near historic lows. On May 1, the Valley’s “months of sales” ratio was 3.1 months, which is slightly less than last month. This fundamental ratio, which measures supply versus demand, is slightly less than historic averages for this time of year. DIM: The average selling time in the region continues to increase. At the end of April, the median number of “days in the market” in the Coachella Valley was 48 days, which is the same as last month but 27 days more than last year. This ratio remains under its pre-pandemic average of 65 days. PRICE DISCOUNTS/PREMIUMS: In April, 15.2% of sales sold above list price compared to 55.9% a year ago. Every city has an average selling discount for detached homes, which range from 0.0% for Coachella to 3.5% for La Quinta. Attached homes range from average discounts of 1.6% in Cathedral City to 4.6% in Bermuda Dunes. The Desert Housing Report April 2023 Coachella Valley Median Detached Price The median price of a detached home in the Coachella Valley ended the month at $685,000, up 1.5% year over year. As the graph shows we are holding the price gains of the last few months, with the current price only 3% below the peak of $710,000 nine months ago. However, we are coming to the end of the strong seasonal period and expect upward pressure on detached home prices to relax somewhat. Median Price Coachella Valley Median Detached Home Price Detached 5.5% Jan 2002 – April 2023 Coachella Valley Median Attached Price The median attached price surged $20,000 in April to end at $480,000. This is the second month of strong price growth with the current price only 2% below last May’s record price of $491,000. This chart, plus the chart on the previous page, confirms to us that homeowner worry of large price declines is somewhat misplaced. In fact, we see the opposite. We see supply and demand somewhat balanced. While demand is slowing, so is supply, keeping prices relatively stable. The Desert Housing Report April 2023 $479,450 $480,000 $150,000 $200,000 $250,000 $300,000 $350,000 $400,000 $450,000 $500,000 $550,000 Median Price Coachella Valley Median Attached Price CV Median Attached Price 4.5% Jan 2002 – April 2023 12 Month Change in The Price of The Average Size Home These two tables display the price and price per square foot of the average size home in each city. The site of our Agua Caliente Hot Mineral Spring

Hot Mineral Spring Story

In the early 21st century, it became clear that the 1950s infrastructure built to protect the spring would need to be replaced. In 2015, Agua Caliente Tribal Council decided to embark on a major retrofit of the steel collection ring over the top of the hot mineral spring to preserve the integrity of the naturally occurring hot spring. Above-ground structures were removed and underground supports and the steel collection ring were carefully replaced. In May 2018, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians broke ground on the modern-day development of the Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza, which includes the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, The Spa at Séc-he, the Oasis Trail and Gathering Plaza. The new Cultural Plaza celebrates the hot mineral spring and the Tribe’s history, culture, traditions and modern-day life, ushering in a new era of luxury, tranquility and healing. MINERAL BATH The custom mineral baths fill with pure thermal mineral springs rich in mineral content to soothe muscles and skin, hydrate, and assist joints. This private bath is made just for you to soak in the sacred waters. Gentle bubbling jets create the sound of boiling water like the name Séc-he. Flotation uses high concentrations of Epsom salts in a tank to allow your body to float on the dense waters. With minimal stimulation of light, sounds, gravity, and temperature it allows the mind to relax and reset. Supporting creativity, reducing pain in muscle and joints as well as decreasing stress by absorbing magnesium into the skin for a calming effect. The Gharieni Quartz bed uses ground quartz and amber heated on the massage table to create a unique user experience and enhance the service. While lying on the treatment table your body is contoured by the grains, a rolling air cushion gently stretches the back and the table tilts back and forth throughout to shift the body. The table is also used with water cells to create the sense of massage on a water bed unique to our signature cupping water massage. Feel the power and benefits of whole-body cryotherapy. It is known for supporting circulation, muscle recovery, full range of motion, increased blood and lymphatic flow, and reduced inflammation. This is a unique experience that offers many wellness benefits for all types of guests. Halotherapy uses the power and cleansing effect of salt to help support lungs and respiratory system. Great for skin health and acne. Luxury homes in PALM DESERT Palm Desert offers homes in various architectural styles, custom builds, and even raw land to build your one-of-a-kind dream home. DISNEY BREAKS GROUND ON COTINO

Palm Desert in California sees promising indicators for Rancho Mirage real estate development as Disney breaks ground on the Cotino residential complex. Surprisingly, it is not related to Disney World or any theme park but an exciting housing community with attractive opportunities and scenery in the Coachella Valley in Southern California. It is the 600 acres of land turned into Cotino at the specific location, which was once a retreat for Walt Disney and his wife, Lillian. So, it has some romance and history attached to it. In addition, Rancho Mirage is a wealthy, peaceful, low-population city in the Coachella Valley, so it was no coincidence why Disney Imagineers decided to break ground here. The calm and beautiful weather with no extreme temperature or rain issues encourages families to spend time there and enjoy endless outdoor activities, including hiking, live animal interaction, and numerous chances to polish their photography skills. The development of Cotino is not only focused on entertainment and spending leisure time, but it offers more than that. It is a well-planned housing scheme that gives a spectacular living experience from a range of single-family homes overlooking a calm desert to shopping malls, restaurants, and much more to explore. Palm Desert offers a simple and convenient way to explore one-of-a-kind luxury living affordable homes according to your priorities. COTINO BREAKS GROUND ON NEW DISNEY Community in Rancho Mirage, California

The Walt Disney Company broke ground on Cotino, a new housing community in Rancho Mirage that will be the first Storyliving neighborhood in the country. RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (KABC) — The Walt Disney Co. broke ground Tuesday on a new project in Southern California. Cotino, the first planned community from Storyliving by Disney, is described by developers as “a dynamic, creative oasis set within the stunning landscape of Palm Springs.” The development plans to bring “Disney magic” to a new neighborhood in Rancho Mirage. According to a source I found, sales for Cotino are expected to begin in early 2023 and the first homes are anticipated to be completed in early 2024. Those curious about the development are also getting a taste of the colorful, water-inspired names of the community’s streets, including Azure Sea and Brilliance Avenues, Blue Oasis and Radiance Drives, Purple Iris and Tide Swell Ways, and Sea Holly Road. From the filing with the planning commission, developers indicate that the planned lot sizes for homes range from 5,500 SFD to 18,000 SFD. The Queen Mary Tour - Overview of Ship/Hotel in Long Beach, California

Queen Mary a retired British ocean liner hotel and tours

The RMS Queen Mary is a retired British ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard-White Star Line and was built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland. Queen Mary, along with RMS Queen Elizabeth, was built as part of Cunard’s planned two-ship weekly express service between Southampton, Cherbourg and New York. The two ships were a British response to the express superliners built by German, Italian and French companies in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Once a world-class ocean liner, the Queen Mary Hotel offers guests unique accommodations and a wide array of attractions that simply cannot be found anywhere else. Whether it’s the authentic polished wood panelling, the original 1930’s artwork, the Art Deco style or the operable porthole(s), there’s no question that the Queen Mary Hotel is unlike any other Southern California hotel. Each stateroom is unique with its own personality and offers a real glimps into what transatlantic travel was like during the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. With an impressive history and tradition of excellence, the Queen Mary Hotel is more than a place to rest one’s head – it’s an entire experience. Trip Advisor  SCHEDULED TOURS ARE NOW FULL The City of Long Beach is proud to welcome visitors back onboard the RMS Queen Mary, beginning Dec. 15, 2022, for the first time since March 2020. To celebrate the reopening of select elements of the ship, and to thank the community for their patience and support during the ship’s closure, the City will offer free guided tours to the public for a limited time. During the one-hour tour, visitors will be guided by a historical docent where they will experience select areas of the Queen Mary’s Promenade Deck and scenic views of the Downtown shoreline, including a walk through the Promenade Shops, Observation Bar, Queen Salon and Royal Salon, among other areas. Tour participants will learn about the ship’s history – including its haunted history – and will also watch a short video inside Heritage Hall featuring the critical repair work conducted to the ship throughout 2022. TOURS Thank you for your interest in the free guided tours of the Queen Mary, available for the public for a limited time. Due to popular demand, all scheduled tours are now full. We appreciate the community interest and excitement in this opportunity and we look forward to welcoming more visitors back on board when additional elements of the ship reopen in 2023. If you or anyone in your party are feeling sick, it is important to stay home until you feel better and avoid close contact with others. With respiratory viruses such as the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) currently circulating at higher rates than usual for this time of year, and with COVID-19 cases steadily increasing, the City strongly recommends that people who are scheduled for a tour not attend if feeling ill. The Health Department strongly recommends that people wear a mask when indoors, especially those who are at high risk for severe disease and after close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 or is known to be sick. TOUR REGISTRATION Tours will begin promptly at their listed times. Registrants should arrive for their tour 15 minutes prior to the start time. Late arrivals will not be allowed to join the tour. Joshua Tree National Park

We have deserts unlike any other place on Earth

Riverside and Imperial Counties have deserts unlike any other place on Earth. These lands have been home to many Indigenous Tribes for thousands of years, and they provide local communities with access to nature and recreation. They also host rare plants and animals, such as the Mecca aster, the desert tortoise, and the desert bighorn sheep, and preserve historical and cultural sites. We need to protect these precious desert landscapes for future generations by creating a new Chuckwalla National Monument and enlarging Joshua Tree National Park. Additional facts about the proposal: The monument would encompass nearly 700,000 acres of land in both Riverside and Imperial counties. The monument would be a resource for the local communities that are park-deprived and affected by the Salton Sea’s deterioration1. The monument would need a presidential order or a vote by Congress to become reality. The campaign for the monument is led by a coalition of environmental groups, including Audubon California, Cactus To Cloud Institute, and California Wilderness Coalition. It would increase the popularity and visitation of the park, as Joshua Tree National Park was the most visited park in California and the 10th most visited in the country in 2020. It would provide more opportunities for hiking, camping, rock climbing, and viewing wildlife and plants in the park. It would preserve more historical and cultural sites, such as mining areas and Native American artifacts. Climate change, which is making the park hotter and drier and reducing the suitable habitat for Joshua trees. Wildfires, which are fueled by non-native grasses and drought conditions and can destroy large areas of Joshua trees. Development, which is encroaching on the park’s boundaries and fragmenting the habitat for wildlife. Air pollution, which is harming the health of Joshua trees and other plants.
