California Desert Chorale Concludes Concert Season

On December 11 and 18, the California Desert Chorale closed its winter season with a finale performance of the “Holiday Singin’ & Swingin” live concert. Led by Artistic Director Tim Bruneau and Principal Accompanist Bruce Magnum, the choral program featured classical pieces and holiday favorites. The concert took place at 3 PM at the Hope Lutheran Church in Palm Desert. The California Desert Chorale live choral concert included festive and fun performances of “A Doo Wop Christmas” by Kirby Shaw; “Swing into Christmas” by J. Garland W. Kent & J. Livingston, arranged by Mac Huff; “The Chanukah Song (We Are Lights)” by Stephen Schwarts, arranged by Nowlin; and many more. Special features of the performance included 32 choristers arranged by soprano, alto, tenor, and bass; 11 Instrumentalists with chamber orchestra including violins, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, harp, trumpets, and percussion; and an audience sing-along portion with a medley of holiday favorites including “Deck The Halls;” “Joy to the World;” “We Wish you A Merry Christmas;” and more. Lyrics were provided along with holiday concert translations. The California Desert Chorale exists to bring joy to singers and audiences alike by providing a wide variety of choral and other inspiring vocal musical performances. The California Desert Chorale will hold the 2023 Scholarship competition, beginning on Saturday, January 28, at 1 pm with a public voice class for all participants. A high degree of personal commitment is required for members to meet the California Desert Chorale’s standards. The Chorale has Monday night rehearsals from September through April; periodic Saturday morning rehearsals; very busy concert week schedules, and occasional community service performances. A substantial portion of the group’s concert repertoire is sung from memory. Therefore, significant individual effort is required between rehearsals. Membership auditions occur prior to the Chorale’s concert season and intermittently during the season, at the discretion of the Artistic Director. All those interested in Chorale membership must perform an individual audition with the Artistic Director prior to acceptance. Current members may be required to re-audition at any point if the Artistic Director perceives the need. Each auditioning singer must perform a memorized solo work from the classical, folk song, musical theater, American standard or sacred music repertoire. Typical audition material includes operatic arias, art songs, and ballads by George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, etc. The musical selection one chooses to use for the audition should readily reflect good breath support, consistent tone quality, accurate tuning, and interpretive skill. Those auditioning must also provide printed sheet music for their audition song. Each auditioning singer will be asked to discuss his or her prior experience as both a choral and solo singer. Some auditioning singers may be required to work privately on specific technical and interpretive skills as a qualification of their membership, at the discretion of the Artistic Director. The California Desert Chorale is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. The California Desert Chorale is composed of both professional and amateur singers who bring a wide variety of choral and solo experience to the ensemble. For more information on how to support and be involved with the chorale, call (760) 346-4933.

Things to know about Acrisure Arena

Before you head out to enjoy an event at this new venue, here are tips and insights into what your fan experience will be like. The main entrance on the east side of the building will focus on creating an indoor-outdoor feel featuring an outdoor food court. Since construction began in June 2021, you’ve likely driven by Acrisure Arena perched on the north side of Interstate 10 just off the Cook Street exit and viewed the immense structure rising from ground level, or you’ve seen the renderings that depict people milling in and out of the multi-purpose venue. Fans will gain their first real look inside Acrisure Arena when comics Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock entertain in the round on Dec. 14 followed by The Doobie Brothers (Dec. 15), Grupo Firme (Dec. 16), and then the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ first hockey game on Dec. 18. There are 2,950 parking spaces including 400 plus for VIP. John Bolton, senior vice president of entertainment and general manager of the arena has decades of experience around venues like Acrisure Arena. In fact, he’s helping the parent company, Oak View Group, develop grand opening and entertainment plans for eight new arena projects. He’s seen Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert go from an architect’s concept to reality, and he likes what he sees. “I think to me some of the interior spaces are even better than I thought,” Bolton says. “I think being in the bowl (the main seating area) you really understand how wonderful this is going to be from an artist’s perspective and a fan perspective. Just knowing that you’re going to be so close to the action, so close to the artist when they’re playing based on that basically one lower bowl design, I think is really, really incredible. “I’m really impressed with all of the work on the exterior of the building and how it fits in with the landscape around the facility as well as the beautiful mountains that are there. I think it fits well from that perspective and also from a color perspective, and I think our friends at the Berger Foundation have done a really, really amazing job in all the parking lots and the landscaping that’s coming on board as it relates to that part of the facility as well.” Hockey drove this arena to Greater Palm Springs where the Coachella Valley Firebirds will play home games through mid-April. PARKING There will be 500 VIP parking spots on the west end of the arena and 2,500 spaces around the south and east ends. If needed, there are 1,000 additional spaces available at Xavier Prep High School with a shuttle service to the arena. Kiosks at the arena will allow you to pay after you park rather be held up by an attendant asking for payment. Using Patriot One’s SmartGateway, fans will walk through screening areas that detect concealed guns, knives, and other related threat objects, and gives customers a green arrow to proceed through or a red warning to staff that shows where the detected threat object is located on the customer. “We think this frictionless, smart walkthrough system makes it really, really easy for people to enter,” Bolton says. TICKETING All tickets are digital and sent to your cell phone, so don’t bring a printout, a screenshot, or another method and expect to get in. The barcode is scanned on your ticket to gain access to the event. JUST FOR THE HOLIDAYS You’ll likely see the 54-foot Christmas tree from the freeway that sits by the main entrance. FOOD Before you even step into the arena, there will be a food court area by the main entrance that will include five restaurants. The specific restaurants will be named this week, Bolton says. “Obviously we’re taking advantage of the weather and extending our indoor-outdoor,” he adds. SEATING Acrisure Arena’s capacity is 11,000 with roughly 10,000 seats for hockey. There are 20 VIP suites that surround the lower bowl seating area. “It’s pretty clear to me that there’s not a bad seat in the house,” Bolton says. “You’re entering a ground level and then going down to your seat.” One seating area to consider. The very back row of seats is separated by a counter where the customer can plant a drink. The seating is similar to a bar seat, but it gives you some space between you and the person next to you compared to regular arena seating. ACOUSTICS The Doobie Brothers will be the first band to play in the arena on Dec. 15 followed by Grupo Firme on Dec. 16 and Maroon 5 on Dec. 31. The technology in this area has changed dramatically over the years, but workers have installed 10,000 square feet of acoustic lapidary panels, Bolton says. “The fact that we don’t have a very high elevated upper bowl where sound bounces off and then comes back down will create a much better sound overall for our events. The goal is to make sure the sound system is really, really awesome. That plays a part in people’s enjoyment.” The Chairman’s Club At the west end of the arena, there will be a giant screen broadcasting the action for hockey and also be part of the musical acts that appear. In addition, there will be a wraparound ribbon screen surrounding the bowl seating. Many of the concession areas have TVs to keep track of the action. CHAIRMAN’S CLUB 29 There is a special room located in the arena’s lower level where Chairman’s Club members can hang out complete with comfy lounge furniture, bar and food offerings, and plenty of TVs to view the event. ARENA WITH A VIEW Check out the north and south bar areas. They are open space areas where you can wander away from the bar and look down at the hockey arena. It’s by far the most dramatic viewing area. Might not be as good for concerted since the bars are parallel to the stage, but COMMUNITY

The photography is gorgeous, the information is up to date, and the nice mix of lux and regular hotels, restaurants, and stores perfectly shows how the area can be enjoyed by all income levels. Palm Springs (and the entire Coachella Valley) are definitely one of the memorable jewels of the state of California. I’m born and raised all 45 years of my life here in the beautiful city of palm springs. And I had to give you a tip of the cap to a very beautiful, and fact-driven presentation of this beautiful city and valley. Bravo good sir, and as a new subscriber, I look forward to viewing more of your videos sir. Stay safe and blessed. How strange … that I stumbled upon this video. I have been thinking of moving out to Palm Springs now that I’m retired. And just two nights ago, I VIVIDLY saw my late husband in a dream telling me to move to Palm Springs. Perhaps the Universe and my husband are paving my way, This is an awesome video of Palm Springs. We had been going to PS for many years until just before the covid crisis. We were lucky to enjoy most of what is shown here prior to 2020. ..but sadly much has changed – even just before covid. The hotels were sold off or changed hands to the new breed and prices skyrocketed. The old feels have disappeared My partner & I and many friends who were regulars like us for many years cannot afford the QUADRUPLED prices! even in modest hotels/motels. It’s ridic My family and I moved to Palm Springs 12 years ago, my kids are growing up here, it’s beautiful to call PS our home Every time I visited PS, I’d always think, “This is so much more beautiful than it needs to be.” This was a very good video. Your passion shines through in your visuals, storytelling, and carefully selected music. Looking forward to more of your creativity.  Any plans for popular southern California ocean-side resort town videos? I want a cool oceanside affordable community to beat the summer desert heat! As a local, I can say you covered some of the best. Great work. Oh WOW! All I can say is this is a stunning video! I’ve never been to Palm Springs & am in Seattle in the spring, under a heating pad & blanket shivering, & it’s raining outside. I realize now that I should have moved there in the 1980s! But, I plan on coming to visit sometime this year! Thank you for the great scenery & information! Used to love going there with my parents when I was a kid. I’m 72 now, and your video makes me want to plan a trip  Loved your video – we have loved Palm Springs since our first visit in the late 90s. You captured it perfectly and we have a trip planned soon and this video has made us even more anxious to get there. My girlfriend and I (from Maryland) visited Palm Springs about 3 years ago in their off-season and absolutely enjoyed it. This was before the word ”pandemic” was ever mentioned in polite society. She often talks about going back but,I talk her out of it. Sometimes in life, you can’t repeat a once-in-a-lifetime experience,…and that was what we had in Palm Springs. My husband and I had a great time this past August and can’t wait to return so much that we’re considering moving. He knows I am tired of the Winter weather. I didn’t mind one bit of hot weather there. A brilliant video with updated images which is refreshing. I feel that you could have mentioned the diversity of PS especially as there are a huge number of LGBT people living and visiting plus there are party-central Arenas. Also, perhaps a mention of the misogyny aspect of the Forever Marilyn sculpture causes some a lot of anxiety. Otherwise, a great video, and I look forward to more. Best video I have seen of Palm Springs. Loved it!  I wanna go there so bad I love to see the Indian Canyons. Do you think
