Paseo may be famed for its shopping, but the El Paseo Exhibition gives the street its sparkle. The newly installed 2017/2018 exhibition, a collection of 18 sculptures that line the street’s median, can be toured for the first time with a Public Art docent on Saturday, January 7 at 9am by meeting at the northwest corner of El Paseo and Portola. A formal dedication follows at 10:30am at The Gardens on El Paseo, where you can also learn about Palm Desert’s new 2017/2018 El Paseo Exhibition app. Then, from 11am-12 noon, artists can be found near their artwork and will be available to talk about their work. Additionally, local arts organizations will set up arts and crafts stations along the street in hopes that the artful setting has inspired you to unleash your own creativity. HEALTHY AND NEW For help with those resolutions, head to the free LiveWell Festival at Palm Desert Civic Center Park on Saturday, January 7 to view live yoga and fitness demos, visit with exhibitors, enjoy live music and try some tasty, healthy treats. If that event leaves you inspired to take on a bigger challenge, why not hop on your bike for the Tour de Palm Springs on January 21, which offers rides varying in length from 10 miles to a 100-mile Century? Or lace up your running shoes to participate in the Palm Desert Panther 5K on January 22, held on El Paseo, where you may be tempted to window shop as you run. GREATEST HITS Ready for some horseplay? For world-class hunter and jumper competition, don’t miss the HITS Coachella Desert Circuit in Thermal, which starts its season on January 17 and continues through March 19, when it wraps up with the $1 Million AIG Grand Prix. Even if you don’t know what a “chukker” is, you’ll love the fast-paced action of the polo matches at Empire Polo Club and Eldorado Polo Club held on Sundays from early January through early April. You can opt for a VIP experience with food service, or pack a picnic and grab a chair to do a little tailgating. LOCAL CORNER FRENCH CORNER CAFE With all the classically trained chefs who call the desert their home, there’s no shortage of delicious French food in Palm Desert.
