Water Transfers at the Salton Sea are supposed to begin in late 2017

Desert Cities Bird Club

Water Transfers at the Salton Sea are supposed to begin in late 2017.  The sea is predicted to shrink dramatically after that, and the ecosystem may be altered forever, with dramatic impacts on birds and air quality.

If you can find it, I highly recommend a documentary about the Salton Sea issue entitled “Breaking Point” by Bill Wisneski .

Many of us were there for a screening of this movie last night in Palm Desert.   Apparently it has been picked up by KCET in Los Angeles so watch for it on PBS or perhaps online.

If I hear of another screening I will let you know.

The Salton Sea is critically important for so many bird species all year long, especially the fish-eating ones.

If you have any questions about the Salton Sea please email me and I’ll tell you more.

In the meantime please let you Congressman know that you are concerned about the future of the Salton sea by writing to him (ASAP) at:

Congressman Raul Ruiz – 43875 Washington Street – Suite F – Palm Desert, CA 92211

The more people he hears from the better!
