Established in December 1997 by the Palm Desert City Council, Palm Desert’s Housing Department oversee Palm Desert’s affordable housing programs and the Palm Desert Housing Authority (PDHA).
The Palm Desert Housing Authority operates over 1,000 affordable rentals units. In addition to the affordable units owned and operated by the Palm Desert Housing Authority, Palm Desert Housing Department provides incentives in various forms including land donations, down payment assistance, deferred loans, density bonuses, and loans to developers that dedicate units as affordable.
The Palm Desert Housing Authority also coordinates a Home Improvement Program for emergency situations in the form of emergency grants. Households that own their own home and qualify as low income may contact the housing department for more information.
Offering a combination of single family homes, senior rental units, and multi-family rental units, Palm Desert continues to be a leader among the desert communities in the development of affordable housing.
